Astronomy Nights

Astronomy lesson:
given about Craters in the moon that have been hit by astroids, also pointing out the smooth area of the moons surface. All the while...Tracking the Moon...on computer screen.

The E.T Star Cluster

The ET Star cluster of around 100 stars was named after a movie character called ET created by Steven Spielberg. The cluster was actually discovered in the 1700′s and is known as NGC 457, but due to it’s similarity to the movie character, it is affectionately nicknamed the ET cluster.

Orion

The Belt of Orion is a prominent constellation located on the celestial equator and visible throughout the world. It is one of the most conspicuous, and most recognizable constellations in the night sky.It consists of the three bright stars: ζ Ori (Alnitak), ε Ori (Alnilam), and δ Ori (Mintaka).

Orion Nebula

The Orion Nebula is one of the most scrutinized and photographed objects in the night sky, and is among the most intensely studied celestial features. The nebula has revealed much about the process of how stars and planetary systems are formed from collapsing clouds of gas and dust.

The Beautiful Moon!

The Moon is the second densest satellite after IO. It is in synchronous rotation with Earth, always showing the same face; the near side {permanently turned towards the Earth} is marked with dark volcanic maria {smooth hardened magma formed by ancient volcanic eruptions.} among the bright ancient crustal highlands and prominent impact craters {depression, natural or manmade, resulting from the high velocity impact of a projectile with a larger body}.

Back to Life on Earth

.....had a wonderful evening! I hope the kids enjoyed this Astronomy Night out as much as I did. I hope so considering tonight was the kick off to our Solar System teaching and crafts this week.

Riverside Astronomical Society

The Riverside Astronomical Society has a history of civic and educational support since its beginnings in 1957. The RAS owes its start to people who saw the need to promote a better awareness of astronomy to the general public. Besides this, they saw a need for a common forum for amateur astronomers to further develop and advance their hobby. Riverside Astronomical Society....events.
