OCTOBER ~ Hip-Hop/Artist "MICHAEL"

Michael Joseph Jackson

an American recording artist, dancer, singer-songwriter, musician, and philanthropist. Referred to as the King of Pop,

Musical themes and genres

Unlike many artists, Jackson did not write his songs on paper. Instead he would dictate into a sound recorder, and when recording he would sing the lyrics from memory. In most of his songs, he would beatbox and imitate the instruments using his voice instead of playing the actual instruments, along with other sounds. Jackson noted that it is easier to sing a drum line, or sing a bass, instead of playing a drum line or a bass with an instrument. Several critics have said that Jackson's distinct voice was able to replace any instrument convincingly.

Hip-hop theater

Hip-hop theater

Hip-hop theater is a form of theater combining hip-hop dance, dialog, and urban music that presents "contemporary stories told in the vocabulary of hip-hop".Other cultural markers of hip-hop such as spoken word, graffiti art, beatboxing, and DJing can be included as well although they are not always present. What is most important is the language of the theatrical piece and the plot's relevance to the world.Danny Hoch, founder of the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, further defines it as such: "Hip-hop theatre must fit into the realm of theatrical performance, and it must be by, about and for the hip-hop generation, participants in hip-hop culture, or both."

Hip-hop-Dance

Hip-hop dance refers to dance styles primarily danced to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. This includes a wide range of styles notably breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970s by African Americans. What separates hip-hop dance from other forms of dance is that it is often freestyle (improvisational) in nature and hip-hop dancers frequently engage in battles—formal or informal freestyle dance competitions. Informal freestyle sessions and battles are usually performed in a cipher, "a circular dance space that forms naturally once the dancing begins." These three elements—freestyling, battles, and ciphers—are key components of hip-hop dance
