Stems

Observation of Stems
Every week we pick a different part of a flower or plant seed, stem, grass blades etc... I have each one set up for a total of a week. The children in our home form there own observation & compare the plants that we've gathered together or that I have set out for them.
I DO NOT drill into them all the parts or scientific words, at this age it's a Stem that provides "LIFE" to the plant. They'll typically converse together and ask questions on there own, it is at that point I will answer.
When their friends come over they're happy to express there new found knowledge.

Nature
Our Life,Our Planet,Our Home
IF we teach our children about NATURE and that all around us is "LIFE".It is in this teaching they will have a GREATER respect for our precious planet "EARTH".

Recent neurological research tends to confirm that mobility and dexterity in the fine motor muscles, especially in the hand, may stimulate cellular development in the brain, and so strengthen the physical foundation of thinking. The work done over the past seventy-five years in hundreds of Waldorf schools worldwide, in which first graders learn to knit before they learn to write or manipulate numbers, has also proven successful in this regard.

"Expressions from within"
Without specific instructions, there is some direction given to the child in a playful and inviting way. Comments, poems, or verses are used to prepare, create anticipation, and invite imagination before beginning.
I LOVE the Waldorf way ...
gently guiding the child with beauty and reverence while allowing the child to freely express his own personality and creativity is awe-inspiring.
